Any self-respecting company, be it a bank or a cafe, takes care of its customers. And one of the points of good service is providing visitors with information about employees. That is, when you approach a salesperson in a store, you already know his first name (sometimes his last name) and position. This is possible thanks to a special badge.
What is a badge?
This is an unusual word borrowed from English to refer to a plastic or paper card, usually small in size, providing customers and visitors to the institution with brief information about employees.
There are two correct pronunciations of the original word badge, based on the classical translation:
- English – badge;
- American - badge.
But many English words tend to change slightly when translated into Russian. The badge was no exception. It has acquired a softer form - a badge. But still, the diminutive wording is more common - badge.
By the way, inexplanatory dictionaries interpret the badge as one of the elements of the uniform.
Purpose
Badges are common in companies and institutions providing services (for example, cafes and restaurants, pharmacies, shops, beauty salons, banks, and so on), as well as at various public events (for example, auctions, exhibitions, seminars, meetings).
As for the information posted on the plate, it can be any. Most often, the standard badge size provides for the location of such attributes as the first and last name, as well as the position of the employee.
If an individual design is created for the badge, then you can also find the name and logo of the company.
Some badges can be used not only as a small information plate, but also as a pass. Often this can be found in large corporations, laboratories and some medical institutions. Then the badges are made to order and additionally contain a photo of the employee, and sometimes data for an automatic pass (barcode or embedded chip).
Information can be placed both vertically and horizontally.
Views
The badge can be made to order from special firms (advertising agencies and printing houses), purchased from stationery stores or made by hand.
Bespoke badges can be made in a variety of designs and materials such as:
- plastic;
- laminated cardboard;
- metal;
- tree;
- magnet and so on.
Ready-made badges are most often made in one design solution from a plastic cover and a replaceable paper card inserted into it (can be of different density).
You can make a badge with your own hands using cardboard and some kind of attachment (for example, a pin). But the easiest way is to use stickers, stickers, on which information is written with a marker. They simply stick to clothing and then just as easily come off without leaving any marks.
Ways of fastening to clothes:
- clip;
- magnet;
- pin;
- string and the like.
Badge size standard (mm) and custom
The parameters of a typical badge are similar to the size of a Euro format business card. The most common standard badge size in all countries is 86 x 54 mm. As a rule, this is enough to accommodate the most necessary information. But there are cases when such a standard size of the badge does not allow to accommodate the company logo or other distinctive signs. Then you can make custom-made plates using your own or other suggested parameters:
- 70х50 mm;
- 100х70 mm;
- 100x100mm.
If you don't know if a standard badge size will suit you, it's best to contact advertising agencies or printing houses. They will be able to tell you which plate size will be best based on the layout created.
