Lenovo has a worthy successor to the previous Y500 line in the face of the Lenovo Ideapad Y510p, which has acquired quite interesting and worthy multimedia capabilities. A relatively powerful fourth-generation quad-core processor is responsible for the performance of the device, and coupled with a good GT 755M graphics card from Nvidia and 8 GB of RAM on board, the gadget will delight users with its speed in modern applications and games.

So, the hero of today's review is the Lenovo Y510p laptop. Let's try to analyze in detail all its advantages and disadvantages, taking into account the opinions of experts and reviews of ordinary laptop owners.

Design

In its appearance, the new model is practically no different from its predecessor, which makes it hostage to both the pros and cons of the design of the previous line. The main flaws in the body remained the same: the device flexes in places and actively collects fingerprints.

Otherwise, this is a solid model with already familiar Lenovo features: rough panels with sharp edges, rounded corners and a combination of high-quality plastic with aluminum. It should be noted separately that the Lenovo Y510p covermade of metal and decorated with a simple, but quite friendly texture, the main component of which are horizontal stripes, so it is very difficult to call the model strict. The main shades of the background are black with a slight inclusion of red in key (according to the designers) places.

The bottom of the laptop is equipped with a ventilation grill that occupies almost the entire bottom. But to cool the system, this is what you need, because a productive laptop will obviously not have such a detail superfluous. You can also find latches that hold the battery there, and judging by the reviews, there are never any problems with removing / replacing it.

The Lenovo Ideapad Y510p measures 387 x 259 x 36mm and is fully compliant with the benchmark 15.6-inch devices. And even the weight, which with such a filling is kept within 2.7 kg, cannot be called large or attributed to factors that complicate carrying or working with a laptop.

Display

1920 x 1080 resolution is more than enough for a 15.6-inch device, and the aspect ratio (16:9) matches the parameters of FullHD displays. The screen is characterized by excellent brightness of about 300 cd / m22 and very good contrast ratios.

Laptop owners speak especially warmly of the matte surface of the display, where color reproduction is set to a very high level, although not ideal for its segment. You can also note the excellent viewing angles, which are notmake you nervous when tilting the display or watching videos with friends. In general, the Lenovo Y510p screen is able to compete with many similar brands, and the owners of the laptop appreciated the display in their positive reviews.

Sound

The acoustic capabilities of the laptop are supported by Dolby Home Theater v4 technology, and two high-quality JBL stereo speakers, which are conveniently located under the keyboard, help her in this. Thanks to a successful tandem, the soundtrack is rich, deep and without any distortion.

The Lenovo Y510p's speaker volume is just enough for a medium-sized room, allowing you to do without third-party speakers or headphones.

Webcam

The laptop's display frame is equipped with a conventional 1.3 megapixel webcam. On both sides of the device, there are built-in bi-directional microphones with high-quality noise reduction system.

The camera features allow you to seamlessly Skype, hold video conferences and take small frontal photos for avatars and more.

Input devices

Lenovo Y510p is equipped with a traditional AccuType island-type keyboard for the series, which occupies the main part of the working area. The buttons are slightly concave and slightly rounded at the bottom, which is very thoughtful from an ergonomic point of view.

The keys travel effortlessly and with good feedback, and the overall comfort of working with the keyboard has been repeatedly noted by Lenovo Y510p owners, reviewswhich were exclusively positive.

Another obvious advantage of the keyboard is the original two-level backlight. When activated, the keyboard is illuminated in red, which is typical for gaming laptops with the only difference: the WASD buttons are not highlighted in any way, so gamers may not find this a very convenient addition.

Some find the unusual backlight annoying, while others just love it. But be that as it may, the backlight can be turned off at any time, so intriguing likes and dislikes can be ignored.

Touchpad

With its appearance, the manipulator pleases the eye, but what it lacks is sensitivity. The owners have repeatedly noticed that after touching the touchpad at the bottom of it, responsiveness only works the second time, and this causes some discomfort, but the alternative in the face of the mouse will certainly solve this small problem.

As far as multi-touch gesture support is concerned, the Lenovo Y510p is fine here: zooming and rotation works fine, vertical and horizontal scrolling works like clockwork. The only thing that users sometimes complain about in their reviews is the rubberized surface of the manipulator, because of which the fingers sometimes do not move as fast as we would like.

The touchpad does not have a separate block of physical keys, but there is a bright red separator marker that will help distinguish the left button fromright.

Performance

The laptop runs on a pre-installed 64-bit Windows 8 version and is equipped with a powerful and productive Intel Core i7 4700MQ series processor of the new and proven Haswell generation. Fans of “overclocking” have the opportunity to increase the initial clock frequency from 2.4 GHz to 3.4 GHz using Turbo Boost. This will allow you to solve tasks or play faster, especially since with six megabytes of third-level cache and Hyper-Threading multi-threading technology, the laptop is able to “digest” up to eight data streams. The Intel chip isn't energy efficient at 47W TDP, but something has to be sacrificed for performance for the Lenovo Y510p.

The graphics card (Intel's HD Graphics 4600) works in tandem with the processor and is only marginally superior to its predecessors from the previous 4000 and 4400 models.

As an alternative to the integrated graphics chip, the laptop is equipped with a fairly powerful system from Nvidia in the face of GT 755M with 2 GB GDDR5 memory on board. But even if this seems not enough, then there is always the opportunity to install a second video card, since the design feature provides for this, but with the only caveat: the second board must also be from Nvidia.

Nevertheless, even with one video card on board, the device copes well with modern games, delivering 40-60 fps at medium settings.

Work offline

The laptop is equipped with a powerful 6-segment lithium-ion battery with an enviable capacity of 5800 mAh (62 Wh). Lenovo promises autonomous operation of the device at medium loads within five hours, but bench tests showed that the device will last for three hours for simple surfing, and at maximum load the battery runs out after one and a half to a maximum of two hours. Therefore, it is better to keep the power supply always at hand.

Summing up

It's safe to say that this laptop has a lot to cling to and love. Even despite the decent cost of the Lenovo Ideapad Y510p (its price is about 65,000 rubles), the device fully justifies the money invested in it.

The main advantages of the laptop are a display with excellent viewing angles and a good supply of brightness and contrast, enviable performance with the possibility of adding a second video card, original lighting and design. Of the minuses, only a very short battery life can be distinguished (the powerful filling is to blame) and the unresponsiveness of the touchpad in some places. Otherwise, this is a solid and intelligent laptop that will surely please you with its extensive capabilities.
