Sometimes the user has to deal with a message that the laptop battery is not detected. Often such a notification leads to panic, because it is the battery that ensures the mobility of the device, and even if there is an outlet nearby, it is not always possible to use it - an unstable electrical network will simply disable the laptop. So what to do?
Reasons why the error occurs
It happens that the battery is installed in the laptop correctly or it was not touched at all, but on the taskbar the battery icon is crossed out with a red cross, and the laptop says: "battery not detected".
The main reasons for such an error can be three types of malfunctions:
- Not working motherboard.
- Battery wear.
- Incorrect battery connection.
To avoid wear and tear, it is recommended to have a spare battery on hand at all times. If aafter replacing the battery, the message will disappear, which means that the matter was precisely in the service life. But not everyone follows this recommendation, much more often a laptop owner buys a battery after certain problems have appeared. And sometimes even after replacing the laptop writes: "the battery is not detected."
What to do?
There are several ways: resetting the hardware settings, resetting the BIOS and starting the computer with a battery without connecting to the mains. Calibration programs can also help.
Each of the above methods will be discussed in detail in the sections below, however, if none of them help, the only thing left is to replace the motherboard.
Reset settings
This action will clear the laptop's temporary memory. The next time you start the laptop, the OS will conduct a full check of the hardware, including the battery. To reset the settings, you will need to disconnect the computer from the power supply, remove the battery and hold down the power button for 15 seconds to get rid of the residual charge. After that, it will be possible to return everything back and start the laptop, in order to then check for the notification "battery not detected on the laptop".
If this operation did not help, you should resort to the next step.
Reset BIOS
This action will help to restore the laptop to the factory settings, although if they were previously changed by the user, this is undesirable, since then you will have to spend time again on a partial restoration of the parameters. Especially unpleasantexits when the method does not help.
But if there is no other way out, you will have to sacrifice your time. To reset, you will need to enter the BIOS when you turn on the laptop (the specific key combination depends on the model) and find the section responsible for resetting the settings to factory settings. After confirming the operation, you need to exit the "IO system" and wait for the OS to load.
If the battery on the laptop is still not detected, you can try to reflash the BIOS, but a beginner should not undertake this procedure, otherwise the computer will completely lose its functionality.
Starting a laptop without a network connection
You can try this method on any computer, but it will not always work, even if the battery is fully functional. As a rule, these are still problems with the motherboard, so nothing happens.
But this method is recommended when the battery is not detected on a laptop, HP for example. If the launch of the laptop is successful, the company's specialists advise reinstalling the operating system - often this action helps to resume the correct operation of the equipment.
Battery not detected
Those who have not been helped by the above tips, there is only a direct road to the service. However, if there is no spare battery at hand, it is worth checking the battery for contamination and oxidation of the contacts - this may have been the cause of the malfunction.
Sometimes gadget owners wonder what it means"battery not detected in laptop"? Everything is quite simple: the laptop motherboard does not see the battery, because there is no proper connection of the contacts. Therefore, if the battery is brand new, and the OS has not undergone any changes, there is no doubt about the cause of the malfunction.
Other problems
Sometimes a crossed-out battery icon appears on a Windows 7 PC, but this does not mean that the battery is not detected on the laptop. Most often, the OS in this case requires replacing the battery, because it does not work correctly - it does not hold a charge, its real operating time no longer corresponds to the displayed indicators, or the laptop does not turn on at all without being connected to the network.
This problem in 95% of cases is solved by replacing the battery, and you should not panic if it appears - unless the laptop model is so outdated that batteries are no longer produced for it.
Other problems with the battery are usually solved in a similar way. If the replacement of the battery does not help, then the motherboard needs to be checked, followed by the installation of new equipment or components. In the case when the laptop does not turn on even with the power supply, first of all, you should try to start the PC from another charger. If the situation does not change, the connector may be faulty. Sometimes you can replace it yourself, because in some models its attachment to the motherboardis not carried out directly, but through wires, so it is freely disconnected from it.
