As a prologue, let's say a word about the main thing. Initially, navigation was understood as the features of controlling a ship in order to get from point A to point B. But in the 20th century, during a significant acceleration of scientific and technological progress, new objects appeared: air and space ships, complex vehicles that could overcome hundreds and thousands kilometers. In this regard, new meanings of this word have appeared. What is navigation in the modern sense? What is it?

Now navigation is the process of managing a certain object that has its own vehicles in a certain coordinate system. It consists of two interconnected parts:

  1. Theoretical substantiation of practically applied methods for managing objects.
  2. Choosing the optimal path of movement in space, routing from point A to point B.

Navigation types

Although since the advent ofA little time has passed since new elements, now the variety of navigation is amazing. At the moment, 11 species are distinguished:

  1. Car navigation. This technology is used to calculate the best route for land transport on existing roads thanks to the presence of visual and possibly voice prompts. A special road map is used as a toolkit. There may be operational information about traffic jams (in the best examples of technology, such as a radio with navigation). But then you also need to connect to some service that collects such data.
  2. Astronomical navigation. A method for determining the location of aircraft and ships, which is based on the light or radio emission of celestial bodies.

  4. Air navigation. It is understood as applied science about accurate, reliable and safe driving in the air of a variety of aircraft. The navigation system in this case is a complex computer and hardware complex with which external data transmitters (satellites and antennas) work.
  5. Inertial navigation. A method that allows you to determine the parameters and coordinates of an object without using external landmarks or signals.
  6. Information navigation. The process of human transition through logically interconnected data.
  7. Space navigation. Controlling the movement of an aircraft in outer space.
  8. Marine navigation. Used for navigation in various waters.
  9. Radio navigation. Works out theoretical issues and features of practical techniques aimed at driving aircraft and ships using radio devices and means.
  10. Satellite navigation. A popular destination among the population. It implies the use of satellite navigation tools to determine your own location and the need to move in a specific direction.
  11. Underground navigation. It implies the use of various means that are necessary to determine the location and direction of movement of specific underground tunneling complexes.

In addition to the simple difference in navigation, there are also navigation systems - special electronic mechanisms that are installed on board ships or vehicles to calculate the best route of movement:

  1. Aviation navigation system.
  2. Car navigation system.
  3. Marine navigation system.
