The use of capacitors in technology is quite extensive. Almost every electrical or electronic circuit contains these radio elements. It is difficult to imagine a power supply without capacitors. They, along with resistors and transistors, are the basis of radio engineering.
What is a capacitor? This is the simplest element, with two metal plates separated by a dielectric substance. The principle of operation of these devices is based on the ability to store an electric charge, that is, to charge and discharge at the right time.
In modern electronics, the use of capacitors is very wide and versatile. Let's analyze in what areas of technology, and for what purpose these devices are used:
- In television and radio equipment - for the implementation of oscillatory circuits, as well as their blocking and tuning. They are also used to separate circuits of different frequencies, in rectifier filters, etc.
- In radar devices - in order to generate high-power pulses.
- Btelegraphy and telephony - for separating circuits of direct and alternating currents, currents of various frequencies, balancing cables, spark-extinguishing contacts, etc.
- In telemechanics and automation - for the purpose of implementing sensors of the capacitive principle, separation of pulsating and direct current circuits, spark suppression of contacts, in thyratron pulse generators, etc.
- In the field of counting devices - in special storage devices.
- In electrical measuring equipment - for obtaining capacitance samples, creating variable capacitances (laboratory variable capacitive instruments, capacitance magazines), creating capacitive-based measuring devices, etc.
- In laser devices - to generate powerful pulses.
The use of capacitors in the modern electric power complex is also quite diverse:
- for power factor improvement and also for industrial installations;
- to create a longitudinal compensation capacity of long-distance power lines, as well as to regulate the voltage of distribution networks;
- for the selection of capacitive energy from high-voltage transmission lines and for connecting special protective equipment and communication devices to them;
- for network surge protection;
- for use in high-power pulsed current generators, in impulse voltage circuits;
- for electric discharge welding;
- to start capacitor motors and to create the required phase shiftadditional motor windings;
- in lighting fixtures based on fluorescent lamps;
- to suppress radio interference generated by electrical equipment and electric vehicles.
The use of capacitors in non-electrotechnical areas of industry and technology is also very wide. So, in the metal industry, these components ensure the smooth operation of high-frequency plants for melting and heat treating metals. The use of capacitors in the coal and metal mining industries made it possible to build transport on capacitor electric locomotives. And electro-explosive devices use an electro-hydraulic effect.
Summarizing, let's say that the scope of capacitors is so wide that it covers all areas of our life, there is no such direction, wherever these devices are used.
