When a 403 error occurs while navigating to a page, the browser can notify you with some messages, which usually contain the text: "403 Forbidden", "HTTP 403", "Forbidden: You don't have permission to access [directory] on this server", "Forbidden", "Error 403", "HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden", etc. The error is displayed inside the browser window (similar to a normal web page). It can be found in any browser and any operating system.
Reasons why a 403 error appears
The error message is an HTTP status code that means that the page you are trying to visit is severely restricted for some reason, i.e. there was a data access problem. Some web servers provide more detailed information about the cause with an additionalnumber and a detailed description, but most often you just see a short message with the error number.
What to do if a 403 error is displayed
Check the link for typos and make sure you're requesting a web page or executable, not a directory. Most sites do not allow folder browsing, so the problem may be that you are trying to specify an entire directory instead of a specific page
Important! It is as a result of this that the 403 "Forbidden" error most often appears. Eliminate this possibility before moving on to the next step.
Tip: If you are a site administrator and want to prevent the error message from appearing in this case, please enable folder browsing in the settings.
- Clear your browser cache. The cause of the failure could be a problem with the cached version of the page you are viewing.
- If possible, enter the page using your username and password. A 403 error might mean that you need to be a registered user to access the page. Typically this will display a 401 "Unauthorized" error, however in some cases the website may be configured differently.
- Delete your cookies, especially if you are unable to log in with your usual username and password.
Attention! When it comes to cookies, make sure you have enabled them in your browser settings, at least as an exception tothis site. Sometimes the error message may be due to the specified files preventing access to data.
- Contact the website administrator. Perhaps the 403 error is visible to all users and is a misunderstanding on the part of the resource administration, which has not yet been notified of the presence of a malfunction. If the contact information does not contain a mailbox, you can try your luck and send an email to "[email protected]", replacing "site-address.ru" with its real name.
- If even after you contacted the administration and made sure that everything is in order, you still see an error message, there is a possibility that your public IP address or ISP is blacklisted. This may cause an error when trying to access one or more sites on the network.
- Try opening the page later. If you are sure that the link address is correct, visit the page regularly until the problem is resolved.
