The slider phone among mobile devices has always been considered something special. Often such a device was bought to support the style. On the other hand, the developers supported this idea with all their might, completing the sliders with an extended set of functions, features, and entertainment.
And if we divide phones into segments, sliders were mostly premium. If there were some successful development in this segment, the slider could be left out of work. But there was simply no development that could compete with him.
In 2005, when it became clear that the slider form factor was gaining momentum, Nokia released its own version. This is how the Nokia 8800 model appeared. The model has a two-inch color display, mp3 support, which is completely incomprehensible with a minimum amount of memory, a phone book with 500 entries and a 0.5 megapixel camera. No memory cards.
Design and equipment
In the closed position, we see only the monitor under the glass. The lower functional part is closed with a metal casing. At the same time, the metal is not indicated for the sake of advertising. The case is quite thick. Speaker and lightthe decorative grille under the glass protrudes slightly forward, therefore, putting the phone "face" down, it is impossible to scratch the screen - the device will lie on these two points.
In addition to the phone and charger, the box contains a software disk, instructions and a wireless headset. Of interest is a velvet bag and a cleaning cloth made of the same material. The headset is mono, but the owner has the opportunity to connect any other headset through a standard jack located at the bottom, near the charging hole. Such an arrangement of slots is not accidental: opening, Nokia 8800 "shoots" upwards, opening access to the keyboard and functional claviers. The pocket is designed in such a way that in the open position, by pushing up, the key block is in the middle of the front panel. The set of keys is standard - 12 keys and call or reset. Although all the keys are hidden under the glass, at the same time, you can receive a call in the closed position by pressing the soft key, which is located on the right side of the case.
The keys are small, translucent with white light, which evenly illuminates the entire keyboard. Only one language is readable on them, so Nokia 8800 will need to replace the alphanumeric block to localize it.
Other modifications - Arte and Sirocco
A year later, in 2006, the company's engineers introduced a new edition. The main difference was the design of the new model, or rather, a slightly modified front panel, under which the numeric keypad is hidden. The original Nokia 8800 had a slight indentationform a repeating joystick underneath it. The new development received a deeper cavity, and in addition, redesigned ringtones, a 2 megapixel camera and radio support. The Bluerooth headset BH-801 was added to the package, the case became leather. But the main difference, which was noted immediately after the appearance of the new model, is a larger battery. The keyboard of the new development has also undergone certain changes. The keys did not do more, but they were built in a ladder (in rows) and the issue of localization was resolved. The English font has been moved slightly to the right. To the left of the number, which also moved, a localized layout was placed. Quite a funny effect: if the original layout is made in a ruler, the localized one is lined up with a cube. The new development was named Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition.
Color solutions. Sirocco and more
Like its predecessor, this edition received two versions - dark and light. The reviews note both black and steel versions. Naturally, later this model received other versions. The original Nokia comes from German factories, so most of the other colors are fake versions released in Asia.
The downside of both solutions is soiled. Fingerprints are easily left on the device. You have to constantly wipe it, but the next time you pick up the device, you will have to wipe it again.
In conclusion of the topic of color design, we should mention the version that received the code name Nokia 8800 Siroccogold. steel glass givenedition has a gold plating. This phone was released in the amount of only 1000 copies.
Some coal
Finland, under license from the Germans, also produced improved developments of the iconic 8800. Finnish-made models were codenamed Arte. At the same time, Arte has two variations, older and younger. The eldest, in addition to sapphire coating on the glass (all 8800 can boast of this), also received an artificial sapphire crystal on the case, which gave the name to the Sapphire Arte version. Almost immediately after the release, the younger version received a modification of the Nokia 8800 Carbon Edition.
Besides the outer case, which is made of carbon fiber, titanium, polished glass and stainless steel, the device has 4 GB of music and, at that time, a good player. Since there is no memory card provided, you can find a cable for communication with a computer in the kit.
Conclusion
Even in this age of smartphones, the Nokia 8800 will remain a cult option. The 88 line, although it received a lot from other models of the brand, nevertheless became a kind of difference. Although it has a rich external decoration, but besides this, there is nothing special to boast of. However, this phone provided calls and SMS. To be fair, Nokia phones don't have to be super fancy to make good calls.
