Surely there is no need to talk about what a torrent is. One or another torrent client is installed on every second computer, every second user has used it at least once to download a file, and every third user uses torrent resources regularly. And therefore, for many, the "Access denied" torrent error is an extremely unpleasant phenomenon.
Why is this happening
There may be several reasons for this error. Depending on this, the ways to solve it will differ. However, common for almost all cases is an error associated to some extent with obtaining access rights either from the torrent client or from the user himself.
So, why does the torrent get an "Access Denied" error:
- the client itself does not have sufficient rights to do anything with the file;
- user does not have sufficient permissions for file operations;
- antivirus blocking the torrent client;
- lack of free disk space;
- invalid folder fordownloading files.
Torrent client does not have sufficient rights
The most common reason why a torrent "Access Denied" error appears is that the application has insufficient permissions to save the file. To avoid this error, you need to give the program the necessary administration rights. In other words, run it as an administrator.
Unfortunately, the Windows operating system does not allow such flexible management of the rights of users and applications associated with them, as in Linux. Therefore, the only solution in this case, so that the "Access Denied" error of the torrent does not repeat, is:
- right click on the torrent client icon;
- in the dialog box that opens, select "Run as administrator".
But in order not to repeat this action every time you start, you can:
- right click on the client icon;
- select "Properties" in the context menu;
- go to the "Compatibility" tab and check the box next to the "Always run as administrator" option.
User does not have sufficient rights
Another common reason why a torrent "Access Denied" error pops up is the lack of administrator rights for the user himself. To solve the problem, you need to log in as an administrator. Or check what rights it hasuser. To do this, you need:
- open "Control Panel";
- go to "User Accounts";
- select "Change account type".
If there is a Guest or "Regular" account, it should be changed to Administrator. Of course, this can only be done if the user himself has administrator privileges.
Incorrect save folder
If the computer writes: "Torrent error: "Access denied", it also makes sense to check if the folder that was assigned to save the downloaded file even exists. Alternatively, the user does not have sufficient rights to work with this folder.
The solution here is obvious: you should change the save folder for torrent files or get the appropriate rights. How to work with rights was described in the previous two paragraphs, but to change the folder for downloading files, you need:
- Launch the application itself.
- In the main menu, select the item: "Settings - Program settings".
- In the left part of the window, find the "Folders" item and click on it.
- In the right part of the same window, you need to find the items: "Place uploaded files into" and "Place completed downloads into". By default, the Download folders are located here. However, if the torrent gives an "Access Denied" error, it is recommended to change it to the one created by the user in the "Documents" folder.
Antivirus overzealous
Often, an access error for a particular program may also be due to the fact that the antivirus is configured too aggressively towards third-party applications and blocks any suspicious, from its point of view, program activity. Torrent clients are no exception. That's when the torrent error "Access Denied" may pop up.
To solve the problem, you just need to correctly configure the "White List" of the antivirus installed by the user, that is, add the application for downloading the torrent to the list of trusted programs. Different antiviruses do this differently, but in any case, it makes sense to look for this item in the settings section.
You can also try to disable the antivirus while downloading the torrent, but this is highly discouraged.
Lack of free disk space
Quite rarely, but it still happens that a torrent access error occurs when there is not enough free disk space.
The solution suggests itself: you need to clear the disk of everything superfluous or (if there are several logical partitions) change the purpose of not only the download folder, but also the disk. How this is done has been said above.
Reinstalling the app
Finally, the last resort, which can be resorted to in case none of the above helps, is to completely reinstall the torrent client andbe sure to clean the system registry from "tails".
The procedure will be as follows:
- Start the "Control Panel" and find the "Programs" section.
- Select "Uninstall a program".
- In the built list of installed applications, find the name of the torrent client, mark it and click on the on-screen button "Delete".
- After that, you need to clean the registry. Doing this manually for a beginner is highly discouraged: there is a high risk of damaging the operating system itself. It is recommended to resort to the help of specialized cleaning utilities. For example, the legendary Ccleaner is perfect.
- After cleaning the registry, you need to restart your computer and install the torrent client again.
As you can see, even if you get an "Access Denied" error when downloading a torrent, there are many ways to solve the problem.
