Print marketing tools have not lost their relevance even in the era of the Internet and SMM. Competent advertising printing is still the key to success in promoting goods and services. Moreover, such tools are more versatile and available for different business sectors.
What is a leaflet?
One of the "paper tools" of promotion is the eurobooklet (aka leaflet). This type of printing products is in demand for many reasons. These include:
- maximum information content;
- economic development, printing and post-press process;
- ease of distribution.
Eurobooklet is an A4 sheet on which one, two or three folds (fold) can be made. The most popular option is a two-fold leaflet. This design does not use fastening elements (staples, paper clips, weaving).
Another advantage of such products is the ability to print leaflets on simple office equipment and even at home. The layout for the euro booklet is easy to design and the process will not take long.
Suitable for replicating one-color leafletsrisograph or digital duplicator. This method of production will make the cost of circulation cheaper, due to the lower cost per copy compared to the cost of printing on a digital printer or printing press.
The important point is the quality of the paper used. If the sheets used to make leaflets have not been properly stored, exposed to direct sunlight, then there is a high probability of tearing the paper along the fold, which is a manufacturing defect. Therefore, it is best to store paper for eurobooklets in a dry, dark room and carry out post-printing processing in two stages.
Eurobooklet: layout dimensions
According to the standard, as already mentioned, leaflets are printed on A4 sheets. The size of an A4 euro booklet, in accordance with ISO 216, is 210 x 297 mm, with a diagonal of 364 mm. Also, printing is done on A3 format, which is 420 x 297 mm.
The dimensions of the Eurobooklet with 2 folds, that is, folded in three, is 99 x 210 mm. When printing on A3 format - 140 x 297 mm. If a leaflet with three folds is printed, then the finished product will have a size of 5.25 x 210 mm, but more often this type is printed on sheets of a larger area, for example, A3. Then the finished booklet size will be 100 x 210 mm, and the remaining 20 mm will be cut off during post-printing.
Production Features
For printing leaflets, both digital and offset methods are suitable. The main criteria for choosing a printing method will be the desired circulation and the budget of the project. Atthe need to produce a small number of eurobooklets, preference is given to digital printing, for large volumes - offset.
Leaflets are printed on paper of any quality and density. They can be in color or black and white, but are usually double-sided. For simple projects, white or colored office paper is fine.
Eurobooklets are easy to turn into premium printed products. In this case, they are printed on designer cardboard or expensive handmade paper, and elements of silk-screen printing and letterpress printing are used for decoration.
Production steps
Work on a leaflet begins with the development of a layout. This stage also includes:
- Preparing and editing text.
- Selection of photos, if needed.
- Choice of colors.
- Placing all elements on the layout.
- Reconciliation and approval of the layout.
Depending on the selected printing method, the following steps may differ, but as a rule they are as follows:
- Color test.
- Trial run.
- Reprint.
- Drying (for offset printing).
- Cut to size.
- Preparing for postpress.
The final stage of work for the leaflet will be post-print processing:
- creasing;
- fold;
- folding the finished eurobooklet;
- packaging finished products.
Special machines are used for post-processing -folding and creasing. They can be either mechanical or automatic. For paper of low density, only folding is used, for denser paper, creasing is first carried out, during which recesses are made to preserve the integrity of the upper layer of the sheet and the die. In the future, the fold passes in the very center of the creasing groove.
Application
Leaflets are used as marketing tools in various business areas. So, in the form of booklets, they print information for tourists, guidebooks, sightseeing lists, maps.
In the form of a leaflet, instructions for the operation of small electrical household items, warranty cards, and utility bills are issued. Theatrical programs, programs of circus and variety performances, even the menu of cafes and restaurants can be made in the form of a Eurobooklet.
A4 folded Euro booklets fit easily into Euro envelopes and are suitable for mailing. They are also used for information brochures and newsletters.
