The development of civilization does not stand still. Once upon a time, our predecessors rejoiced at the invention of the first phones, cars and computers, but with the advent of the Internet, we became the happy owners of demotivators and, lo and behold, memes that try to somehow brighten up existence in the web space.
It's impossible to go online without stumbling upon another meme: trollface, lolface and a bunch of other faces. Recently, facepalm has become especially popular. What is this?
What is face and where is palm
What does facepalm mean? From a linguistic point of view, this word consists of the English components face (“face”) and palm (“palm”), but the word “rukalitso” quickly scattered in RuNet, which, in principle, conveys the main idea. This term is understood as a gesture full of disappointment, shame and even sorrow for the fate of individuals and humanity as a whole. You can freely use a funny picture in response to outright stupidity, information that is obviously false, and indeed to everything that you consider unacceptable for some reason. The simplicity of the meme is also surprising - itthe meaning is clear to everyone, regardless of race, gender or social affiliation.
Star facepalm - what kind of animal is this?
From where the facepalm came from is quite difficult to figure out. Perhaps the first to appear were memes depicting model Jim Horn, where he slightly covers his disgusted face with his hand. But the most popular was the silhouette with Picard, the captain of the Star Trek ship Enterprise, performed by Patrick Stewart (aka Professor X). The public liked the memes with him so much that they began to be sought out by fans in every episode of Star Trek, in various situations and poses. Facepalm pictures of Picard sitting in the captain's chair, squatting, sitting next to Date (and he also with the same gesture) spread across the Internet. In their search, many also swung at the sacred - Captain Kirk and Spock, finding them with a gesture of "handle". Well, at least watch some sci-fi classics.
But the gesture is not limited to Star Trek, and many quickly find facepalm in their favorite films and TV shows - hence the appearance of memes "I'm ashamed, I'm not with them" by Homer Simpson, Dr. House, King Theoden and even Ernie from the street Sesame. The hobby for funny shots has gone so far that, in addition to tens of thousands of quickly dispersed demotivators, memes, and just pictures, a facepalm emoticon was already invented - a familiar yellow bun that brings a plump palm to the head (although in his case to the whole body) and sad, evensadly, shaking his head. And in some cases, the smiley also raises its eyebrows sarcastically. Here's a facepalm! There is no doubt that this is an ideal way of self-expression for lovers of sarcasm and other caustic humor.
Shameful
In general, the popularity of facepalm is gaining momentum, there are more and more options, and they are no longer limited by Starfleet, cinema in general, or even belonging to the human race. Cute cats with equally cute "dejected gestures" are actively gaining popularity. But no matter how funny the meme may seem at first glance, you can say about facepalm that this is exactly what reflects the sad situation of the generation as a whole. And it's a shame.
