What is the World Wide Web?
World Wide Web or, as it is called in our country, the world wide web, is a developed version of the abbreviation WWW. It is a single network of information resources, the connection between which is provided by telecommunications and is based on the hypertext representation of data.
It would seem that now an enlightened person should understand what WWW is, but for ordinary people the above sounds at least strange.
Internet as a distributed information system
The first question to understand in order to understand what the WWW is is what is the network of information resources that opens up to us when we use the Internet. All the information that the World Wide Web can provide us is stored on a large number of special servers,which are computers connected to the same network. A user who wants to receive this information accesses the server through a special program - a browser that allows you to view WWW documents. The interaction between the server and the browser takes place according to certain rules that are laid down in the HTTP protocol.
What is hypertext?
The second question to think about in order to fully understand the meaning of the WWW is what is hypertext. The HTTP protocol allows you to work on the Internet only with the textual information that is written in a special language - HTML. It, in turn, is a markup language. It is with the help of this document format that the possibility of data transmission on the World Wide Web is ensured, since it not only transmits all the necessary information, but also displays it on the user's screen exactly in the form in which the author wanted to transmit it.
In simple terms, what is the WWW - we can say that this is the Internet. This will not be a mistake, because this abbreviation is translated as the World Wide Web. It appeared in 1989, when the scientist Tim Berners offered the world his innovative project. 15 years have passed since then, and now in almost every home, every day someone enters the three magic letters WWW into the address bar of the browser to get to their favorite resource.
