Communication in social networks every year plays an increasing role in the lives of people of all ages. Over time, such relationships have acquired a huge variety of unwritten traditions, slang words, special methods of expressing one's own opinion. One of such manifestations of a "virtual" conversation was emoticons. It is not surprising that the question “how to put a smiley in the status” worries newcomers no less than the very possibility of correspondence or participation in virtual groups.
Smilies: what is it?
Emoticons were invented to make it easier for users to communicate online, allowing them to express moods, emotions or points of view not only with words, but also with the help of special icons, avoiding long phrases. The term "smile" itself comes from the English word "smile". Indeed, speaking of emoticons, we first of all imagine a funny stylized face with a wide smile. However, in fact, such symbols are currently able to expressa much wider range of emotions. Nowadays, by going to the comments on VKontakte, you can see emoticons dedicated to emotions, relationships between a man and a woman, food, various hobbies and professions. Accordingly, the speed of correspondence, in comparison with the "childhood" of social networks, has increased significantly. Now, in order to express your admiration to the girl you like, it is enough to put in a comment the image of a heart pierced by an arrow. Moreover, adding it to a comment is as easy as adding it to a status. You can put a smiley in any situation, the main thing is that it is appropriate.
VK emoticons
The ability to add "VKontakte" emoticons to personal messages or correspondence appeared not so long ago. Only on August 8, 2012, the creator of this resource, Pavel Durov, announced that the site is now able to supportthe standard Emoji code, which was previously used, as a rule, only in the mobile version of sites. Even later, it became possible to add emoticons in the status. VKontakte is constantly adding new mood symbols, and currently has a collection of more than 800 such icons.
To the chagrin of some users, the maximum number of emoticons in one message is limited to one hundred; all such characters, starting from 101, will be displayed as empty squares. On the other hand, this number is quite enough to express most of the possible emotions and states of mind.
Do I need emoticons in the status?
Most people discovering the Internet, sooner or later wonder whether it is possible to use "VKontakte" system of signs "Emoji" and how to put an emoticon in the status. Initially, the VKontakte network was one of the few sites that did not support the display of emoticons. This shortcoming was eliminated quite quickly, making it easier and more intense for users to communicate. However, until recently, these characters could be inserted into private messages, comments, even posts themselves - but not in the status of your profile. Meanwhile, few places need them as much as here.
In the comments, any of your phrases can be explained by clarifying incomprehensible points for the interlocutor. Be sure to copy the code in full, along with symbols and punctuation marks, otherwise the emoticon will not be displayed. After that, you just have to open the field for changing the status and insert the selected code into it. Do not forget that after saving the status, the page must be reloaded (this can be done with the F5 key or manually).
Everyone who communicates on social networks should remember that each smile carries its own semantic load, emphasizing the opinion expressed by the author of the page. For example, the code shown in the picture above, depending on the meaning of the text, can mean a wink, slyness, a hint of a common secret, or just a playful mood. For this reason, the use of emoticons out of any context is considered bad form and can alienate interlocutors from a person,using "semantic" signs mindlessly.
