Vivienne Westwood launched its first womenswear collection in 1981. Today, the fashion designer presented the world with a line of men's clothing, women's dresses, shoes and handbags, jewelry. Wedding dresses from outrageous designer and founder of punk fashion Vivienne Westwood are very popular. Where did it all begin?
The story of a young designer
Vivien was born in 1941 in the provincial town of Glossop. After leaving school, she entered the teacher's college in London, married Derek Westwood and even managed to work as a teacher. However, the dullness of everyday life and impenetrable poverty literally destroyed the future designer and poisoned her life in order. In the end, Vivienne made up her mind and changed everything at once.
At 24, she meets the future producer of the Sex Pistols music group. Malcolm McLaren was impressed with Westwood's style and asked her to design stage clothes for the band's lead singers. She agreed. This is how the famous outrageous diva and ancestor of punk Vivienne Westwood was born.
First informal boutique in London
It should be noted that the group liked the proposed clothes. Punk rock performers gladly dressed in ripped jeans hung with massive chains, leather jackets with studs, colorful stretched T-shirts. Success inspired Vivienne and she, together with McLaren, opened a boutique of her clothes Sex in London in 1971.
The name was fully reflected in the design of the store: posters from pornographic magazines were used as decor, toys from sex shops, rubber products adorned window panes. Conservative Londoners were shocked by this phenomenon and bypassed the obscene store. But he already had his own clientele: various informals, girls of easy virtue, musicians.
The release of fashion collections
Designer Vivienne Westwood entered the catwalk in 1981. The world saw a style in unusual clothes and met a collection of designer items in the spirit of punk fashion called "Pirates" with interest. The originality, absurdity, impudence of outfits were embodied in the subsequent collection "Savages". The next line called "Tramp" was not inferior to courage and unconventionality. Fashion Designer of the Year was awarded to Westwood in 2007 after launching a menswear line.
Wedding punk fashion
In 2012, the world was once again shocked by Vivienne Westwood. The designer's wedding dresses took her to the next level in the fashion world. Her brides took to the podiumin puffy tulle skirts and tight corsets. The traditional white color, of course, was used by the designer, but was not the main one. Dita Von Teese chose a bright purple dress with voluminous drapery for her wedding. An ivory-colored outfit with gold embroidery flaunted on the heroine of Sarah Jessica Parker on her wedding day. Both fashionistas and critics liked this image of Kerry Bradshaw.
Bag Collection
Vivienne Westwood produces a wide variety of handbags. So, in different collections there are both bright printed models and discreet stylish pieces. The line of bags "Africa" was created directly on the hot continent in Nairobi. Thanks to the London brand, local residents were able to improve their financial situation by tailoring the collection. This action evoked a response in the hearts of associates and pop stars. They enthusiastically bought bags made from scraps of leather, patches and scraps of old banners. Of these, Vivienne Westwood created unique pieces in a punk style with echoes of the African ethnic group.
Today, the designer is already over 70, but she remains at the peak of popularity, not only releasing new collections, but also raising issues of global ecology. Each new model of the English rebel is not only a stylish, unique thing, but also a dumb question posed to the world community.
